The Insignificant Becoming Significant

Matthew 2:6 (NLT): “And you, O Bethlehem in the land of Judah, are not least among the ruling cities of Judah…”

When the Magi arrived at Herod’s palace, they inquired about the birth of the “King of the Jews”, only to discover He was not to be found in the palace, but in a little town, called Bethlehem. What is rather fascinating is that the prophet Micha’s prophecy of Bethlehem describes it as rather insignificant: “But as for you, Bethlehem Ephratah, you are little to be among the clans of Judah…” (Micah 5:2). Whereas the language in Matthew seems to indicate that Bethlehem is by no means insignificant. Why the apparent contradiction? 1 Corinthians 1:28-29 says, “God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him”. What seemed insignificant to others proved to be significant to God. Our significance isn’t dependent on our place of birth, or status in society. It has nothing to do with our education or financial wealth. However, it has everything to do with who we are in Christ Jesus – and the degree to which we have surrendered ourselves to His Lordship. This Christmas, may the significance of Jesus’ life in you become a revelation to you! Then you can boldly carry His Presence and power to significantly invade this world with the glory of His kingdom.
