Romans 6:4 (AMPC), “We were buried therefore with Him by the baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious [power] of the Father, so we too might [habitually] live and behave in newness of life.”
The renewing of the mind is a constant, 24-hour-a-day practice that we can become well-skilled in. We are told to be vigilant in this because our enemy, the devil, watches to see which areas we are weak in so he can try to bring distraction and defeat. What we choose to keep our minds thinking on will attribute greatly to the way we behave in life. The Bible says we are to habitually live and behave as the new-man in Christ - not the old-man nature that died with Him. Philippians 4:4-5 tells us how the new-man in Christ behaves. It says he is always rejoicing as he delights and gladdens himself in Christ! Notice, we don’t delight in circumstances - we delight in the Lord! Consistently make the time throughout your day to turn your affection towards the Lord and delight in Him, responding to and enjoying His wonderful Presence. Let that delight wash over your soul and as His peace and joy seep into every recess of your mind. Psalm 37:4 says that as we delight in the Lord, basking in His goodness - His desires become our desires, and He grants them all to us! The more we focus on surrendering to His refreshing Presence, the more we commit our ways to Him, and roll every care over to Him. There is a deep trust and confidence in His promise that those desires will come to pass. As we do this, v:5 kicks in, it says all men will recognize our unselfish nature. Since we are saturated by His Presence, we are patient and restrained in our response to people and difficult circumstances. Verse 6 says the new-man in Christ does not fret, nor is he anxious about anything! That’s because he does verse 4 so well: Constantly rejoicing and delighting in the Lord, always committing his ways to Him and rolling every care upon Him, with thanksgiving! Verse 7 promises that as a result of this habitual lifestyle, the peace of God will overwhelm and dominate us. As you determine to keep your thoughts fixed on what the Word says is true concerning you, you will not move by what we see or feel in the natural because of your steadfast trust is in the Lord. Remember, what you fix your thoughts on, becomes more real to you - and you begin to live and behave in your newness of life in Christ Jesus!
