Psalm 34:4 (NKJV), “I sought the LORD, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.”
David knew the Lord. Even though he was under the Old Covenant, and did not have the Spirit of God living on the inside of him - he was able to seek the Lord and find Him. He learnt how to call on the Lord in times of great trouble and tap into a flow of God’s great peace, and mighty inner strength. This is remarkable, especially since David was spiritually connected to death, through sin. It amazes me how the love and mercy of God is so powerful that it can be experienced by anyone who calls on His Name - in faith! In Psalm 70, we see David in a place of great desperation! He feared for his life! King Saul’s highly skilled assassins were hunting him down to kill him. In the natural, David knew there was no possible way of escape. So, he did what he knew to do - David called on the name of the Lord to rescue him. In verses 1-3 of Psalm 70, we hear the distress call for help! Then suddenly, in verse 4, there is a distinct change in tone! It’s as if David is transported to another realm. Instead of being overwhelmed by the reality of sudden destruction - he is overwhelmed by the glorious reality of God’s goodness and faithfulness towards him. In fact, the stark comparison of dread and paralyzing fear to absolute joy and delight is undeniable! We see David switch over to a place he had been trained to dwell in as a shepherd boy. A place where he is able to intimately connect with the Lord, and be filled with His peace, faith, and mighty inner strength! He had learnt to be skilled at focusing on his place of safety in the Lord, while he was surrounded by intense trouble. Look at the Passion Translation of Psalm 70:4, “But let all who passionately seek You erupt with excitement and joy over what You’ve done! Let all Your lovers, who continually rejoice in the Savior, say aloud, “How great and glorious is our God!” David trained himself to enter a place where his mind refused to focus on what was happening in the natural and became more conscious of what was true in the realm of the spirit. As he did this - he encountered the Lord, knowing full well that the victory was his! Understand you are more blessed than David was - you are inseparably connected to the life of God! You have been given direct access to His throne of grace at any time you set your mind to focus on Him. Know, as you seek Him, He hears you and shows you how He has already delivered you from every fear!
