Proverbs 28:20 (NLT), “The trustworthy person will get a rich reward, but a person who wants quick riches will get into trouble.”
Faithfulness and consistency always pay off! In fact, there is a rich reward for a lifestyle of integrity and diligence. The NKJ version of this verse says the faithful man will abound with blessing! The word “abound” means to flourish and have abundance. The Passion Translation says, “the honest and faithful person will be drenched in life’s blessing”! What a wonderful promise of thriving and living in God’s overflow! The flip side, of course, doesn’t sound good at all. One commentary on this verse states that trying to gain wealth rapidly without ethical consideration will lead to trouble, and that punishment will rain down on such a person. God’s Word clearly shows us that the pathway to a life of blessing and favour is to operate in deliberate, loyalty, honesty, and obedience to God's principles. The choice to trust in the Lord and remain faithful with what He has entrusted us to do, and not take the quicker option that involves somewhat of an ethical compromise will most certainly pay off. If you find yourself tempted to take a ‘short-cut’ to alleviate pressure, knowing that it will not sit right with your conscience, remind yourself of who your source really is. You belong to a covenant keeping God, Who has promised to always take care of your every need. He is your reward and source of abundant, overflowing blessing as you make the choice to do what is pleasing to Him. So be intentional in your faithfulness and God’s blessing will always locate you. He who is faithful over a few things, will be made ruler over many!
