Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) - “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
The eleventh chapter of Hebrews lists men and women, throughout history, who were enabled through faith to do impossible things. It mentions how Abraham, the Father of faith, received an instruction and promise from God (Genesis 12:1 – 3), and urged by faith, he obeyed and walked in the reality of that promise. We can imagine the difficulty of the decision Abraham had to make to follow wholeheartedly after a God he had not yet heard of, to leave his father’s home to a place he did not know. Nevertheless, his faith propelled him and pushed him to obey. Romans 4 tells us that because Abraham believed God and fully trusted Him to keep His Word, God saw him as righteous. Faith impresses God. Even though we can’t see Him with our physical eyes, we do hear His voice in our spirits, through faith. And we believe His written Word to be true. Abraham had an unwavering faith and was fully convinced of God’s ability to perform His promise. He trusted in God’s faithful character to follow through on His Word (Romans 4:20-21). God knew Abraham’s heart was fully committed to Him, and as a result, there was not one good thing He would withhold from him, because He could trust him. At the first sign of opposition or trouble, God could trust Abraham to remain loyal to Him. When the Lord asked Abraham to give Him his most treasured possession, even though he couldn’t understand the reason, Abraham didn’t hesitate to obey, because he knew God would still fulfil His promise - and fully expected Him to raise Isaac up from the dead afterwards. (Hebrews 11:19). When Abraham and his nephew had to part ways, Abraham had no regret when Lot chose the better land, because he knew God would bless him and cause him to flourish, regardless of the natural terrain. Like Abraham, we are heirs to this wonderful covenant, however in Christ, we have been granted an even better one, established on better promises. (Hebrews 8:6). Today, develop an unshakable faith in God that leads to an unquestionable obedience to His will, and you will live in the full benefits of your covenant, just as Abraham did.
