Be Washed by the Word

Ephesians 5:26 (AMPC), “So that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the Word,”

The glorious and victorious finished work of the cross made our risen, Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, our Great High Priest! Hebrews 7:26 says, “[Here is] the High Priest [perfectly adapted] to our needs, as was fitting—holy, blameless, unstained by sin, separated from sinners, and exalted higher than the heavens.” Praise God! Verse 27 of Hebrews 7 says, “Unlike those other high priests, He does not need to offer sacrifices every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when He offered Himself as the sacrifice for the people’s sins.” Jesus paid for us to be completely cleansed from all sin. Our guilt and shame have been totally and utterly removed! What do we do then, if we do sin? 1 John 1:9 tells us that instead of running away from God, we must run to Him. The Passion Translation of this verse says, “But if we freely admit our sins when His light uncovers them, He will be faithful to forgive us every time. God is just to forgive us our sins because of Christ, and He will continue to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” In the Old Testament, as part of the requirements of entering the temple, the people were required to wash their hands. Even when the new covenant believer understands his position of righteousness in Christ Jesus, there are things throughout the day that tend to contaminate our minds. Even if we didn’t take part in sin, we possibly heard or witnessed things that we knew were not pleasing to the Lord. Those things all have an impact on our minds, like seeds, they lodge themselves into our thoughts. Praise God - Jesus is the Living Word! As we meditate on the Word of God, there comes a cleansing of our thoughts. The Bible refers to this as the washing of the water of the Word. As we continually yield to the cleansing power of the Word over our souls, Jesus sanctifies them with His truth and all thoughts of guilt and shame are washed away and are immediately replaced with the reality of who we are in Him! Let God’s cleansing Word wash over your soul today!
