1 Peter 3:15 (NKJV), “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;”

It’s no secret that we are living in very unstable times. This globe has been lit up with wars and rumours of wars. There is a vast increase in number and intensity of natural disasters all over the world. Increased hatred, violence, and growing unrest is found in almost every nation, as vast numbers of once, church goers, are falling away from their faith, and their love for God and His ways have grown cold. Which is why, now more than ever, we must find stability in the knowledge and wisdom of God’s Word. Isaiah 33:6 says, “Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times…” The second part of that verse in the AMPC translation says, “…the reverent fear and worship of the Lord is your treasure and His.” We will never be able to share the hope we have in Christ for the time we live in, if we haven’t found ourselves rooted and anchored in the truth of God’s Word. If we are not encountering Jesus in His Word every day, drawing from His wisdom and being filled with His love, we will have nothing of substance to offer a world that is desperate for answers. When Peter penned this letter, urging believers to be ready and well prepared to answer questions about their hope in Christ, the Christian faith was in its infancy. It was completely different from the pagan religions of the Roman Empire, so people were skeptical and simply didn’t understand the message of the Gospel. In the verse just before this one, Peter spoke about the persecution they would probably suffer for living righteously and not compromising to fit into the culture of the world around them. Instead of being quiet about the reason for their faith in God, he told them to be confident and prepared to give an answer to anyone who asked, with an attitude of love and respect. The last thing people who are searching for hope and stability need, is someone who is arrogant and haughty, with an air of condemnation, shoving their belief down their throats. What people want to hear about and experience for themselves, is the supernatural peace and joy that flows in and through a believer who has found their stability and purpose in a living relationship with the Saviour of the world! Make sure you are living in intimate fellowship with the Lord Jesus. Keep the truth of His Word alive in your heart, continuously meditating on its wisdom and knowledge. The peace and joy this produces will draw people to know the stability you carry, so be ready to share the answer for the hope you have.
