Know, Trust, and Obey

Proverbs 4:20 (NKJV), “My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.”

We energize whatever we place our attention on. The Bible says that when we believe what the Word says, and speak it from the conviction of our hearts, the power of God is activated and directed by those words of faith. This is where it is critical to keep our attention on those words of faith, and off of the need God’s power is attending to. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says we are to cast down the incorrect imaginations that fill our minds: ‘casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, …” If we are to cast down the wrong imaginations, it makes perfect sense to exalt the right ones! The thoughts we allow to dominate our minds will pave a path for them to become our reality. When we spend time in God’s Word, we begin to see everything that belongs to us, as our inheritance, in Christ Jesus. Just knowing about these things is not enough, in fact, it’s only the first step to receiving. We need faith to receive what has been promised us. How do we activate our faith? We keep our attention on what God’s Word says is ours. That attention becomes our expectation! You see, faith is the substance of what we are believing for. It always comes up from our spirit-man when the voice of God’s Word dominates every other voice we hear. The latter part of Proverbs 4:20 tells us to incline our ears to what the Lord tells us to do. Once we know what God intends for us to walk in, and faith for it is flowing strongly from inside us, we must listen intently to the Holy Spirit’s leading of how to apply His wisdom, so we can walk in all He has for us. Our obedience to whatever He says to do, will activate the miracle and answer the need. Today, make God’s promises larger than your feelings or your need. Incline your ear to His instructions and obey whatever He says to do. This moment-by-moment obedience will keep your attention on His Word and as you know, trust, and obey it - you will experience His best for your life.
