1 Corinthians 14:4 (NKJV), “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.”

Paul taught extensively on the value of speaking in tongues. He made it clear that there is a place for this gift to operate in the corporate body, and in the individual life of the believer. When we speak in tongues in our personal time with the Lord, the Holy Spirit takes the will of God directly from our spirit-man, and we speak it out through our words. Of course we don’t understand what we are saying however, it is exceptionally powerful, especially when we engage our minds and listen intently for the interpretation of what the Spirit is saying. A spontaneous thought will come up from your spirit into your mind and give you clarity and understanding concerning what the Spirit is praying. He gives us His wisdom on issues and creative ideas to accomplish His will for our lives.  There will be times that while we pray in tongues this way, the Lord will remind us of someone He wants us to pray for.  The Bible also says that the Holy Spirit will tell us of things to come, this happens while we pray in the Spirit, listening for His wisdom to be revealed. Another wonderful result of this heavenly language is how it stirs up inside us a hunger for God’s Word. When we pray in tongues before reading the Word, we can be sure to expect fresh revelation to flow as our hearts engage in its wisdom. One great advantage we receive by this gift is that the devil cannot understand what we are praying and cannot interfere or strategize a counterattack. Our own human reasoning can’t interfere when we pray in tongues, bringing doubt or limitations to the perfect will of God being declared. In fact, this is the quickest way to silence our natural reasoning and amplify what the Holy Spirit is wanting to reveal to us. Spend time praying in the Holy Spirit today, being sure to listen intently to what He reveals to you, implementing it into your life, as He leads you from faith to faith and victory to victory.
