Without Excuse

Romans 1:20 (NLT), “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature. So, they have no excuse for not knowing God.”

It is our mandate, as Believers, to share the good news of the Gospel wherever we go. Time is running short, and the return of Jesus is imminent. For those who are abiding in Jesus, and keep His Word alive in their hearts, this is exciting news, in fact, the Bible calls it our blessed hope! Jesus taught us to discern the times and seasons, particularly of His coming to catch away His church. Matthew 24 and Luke 21 tell us what to look out for so we can know the season of this event. In Luke 21:28 it says, “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near. For those who have not surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus, however, along with those who’s love for the Lord has grown cold - the reality of an eternity separate from God looms closer. Praise God for the work of the Holy Spirit! As much as He works in and through us, He has also made Himself to be clearly seen by all! Inside every human being is the capacity and innate awareness that there is a God, and He can be seen and known! Romans 1 makes this very clear. Sadly, for many there is a strong tendency to reject that knowledge of God and deliberately turn away from seeking Him out. The result is a steady progression of wickedness in the thoughts and behavior of mankind as their hearts are hardened against God. The regression is immense, to the point where God gives them over to their own debased minds - and literally removes their conscience from them. Now this is devastating for those who willingly, outrightly reject God; but just as devastating is the outcome for those who once made Him Lord but refuse to live in intimate fellowship with Him and His Word. When we live in a way that disregards the power of salvation and the miracle of the new life of the Spirit, our faith is not fully engaged in the things of the Spirit, and our love for God grows cold, making us spiritually lukewarm. Continuously ignoring the prompting of the Holy Spirit to draw near to Him and live for Him puts us on a slippery slope towards becoming indifferent to Him. This is a breath away from taking the step of denying and rejecting His Lordship in our lives. 2 Timothy 2:12 describes the outcome of this state of mind towards the Lord: “…If we deny and disown and reject Him, He will also deny and disown and reject us.” Today, take a realistic view of your heart towards the Lord and make the choice to cling to Him and the life He has made available for you, so you don’t stand before the throne to hear the words, “You are without excuse.”
