1 Kings 17:13, “And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son.”

Jesus spoke more about our attitude of giving into His kingdom, than any other topic in the Bible. The Apostle Paul taught on this subject extensively throughout the New Testament too. If it was so important for the Lord to place such importance on our attitude towards giving, it certainly warrens our attention. I believe the reason is because we have a very good Heavenly Father Who desires to see His children blessed and living without lack. Psalm 23 describes Jesus as our Good Shepherd who causes us to never lack. He always leads us out of want, and into His supernatural provision, where we never have to fear being without. In the account of the prophet and the widow in 1 Kings 17, Elijah knew full well that she and her son were in dire need of a miracle of provision.  When she told Elijah she only had enough supplies for one last meal, he told her to make the meal and then bring it to him first, before she and her son ate, and that when she obeyed, her flour and oil would never run out. The prophet represented the work of the Lord in her life, so when she was told to bring what she had to him first, it parallels with the same instruction Jesus gives us in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” When we make giving into the kingdom of God our priority, His response will be to provide every need we will ever have. No matter how desperate our financial situation may become, giving to Him, to advance His kingdom work as our first priority - even before taking care of ourselves, proves our unwavering trust in His willingness and ability to take care of us - far better than we could if we kept what we had for ourselves. Giving into God’s kingdom first unlocks the flow of supernatural provision into our lives. Put His kingdom first and you will never be without.
