Our New Life in Christ!

1 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV), “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

From the moment we became born-again, some pretty significant things happened to us, that would change absolutely everything about us - including our eternal destiny! Amongst other books in the New Testament, Romans 6 tells us that in the realm of the spirit, we were transported through time and space and taken to the actual event of Jesus being on the cross. Our sinful nature, that was doomed through the curse of sin, was put into Jesus. He literally took that filthy nature upon Himself. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Then, as He died carrying that sin nature - we died with Him. Romans 6:6 says, “knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.” We were buried in Him too. Then, the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, raised us with Him! Romans 6:4 says, “Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” We received a brand-new life nature in Christ Jesus! This is what it means to be born-again! Now, with this new life nature comes our responsibility to walk in the newness of life we have received! Romans 6:5-6 says, “For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.” This new life is one that does not sin, in fact, it has power over sin and authority over the devil, who is the author of sin! Ephesians 1:21-22 describes this position of authority we now have in Christ Jesus! As we meditate on these powerful truths, we will realise we have a whole new life of the spirit to live. It is far more real and powerful than the natural way of living, and its ways are made clear to us as we renew our minds to God’s Word. Choose to live by your spirit, and the old life of the flesh will have no hold on you!
