No More Unbelief

Matthew 17:20 (NKJV), “So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”

When Jesus’ disciples couldn’t cast out a demon from a young boy, the child’s father came to Jesus to get the job done. After Jesus rebuked the demon and it came out, the disciples asked Him what they had done wrong. Jesus went on to explain to them that their faith wasn’t the issue, because faith even the size of a mustard seed has enough power in it to move mountains. In fact, Jesus said nothing is impossible when we operate in faith. The problem they had was unbelief. Andrew Womack did a brilliant teaching on unbelief and stated 3 ways unbelief can be found in us, and how to recognize and remedy each one. Unbelief can come through ignorance of God’s Word. When we don’t know what God’s Word says about who we are in Jesus, what we have in Him, or what we can do because we are in Him, even though faith is in our re-born spirit, we will never be able to access or operate in these things if we are ignorant of them. Philemon 1:6 says that our faith is made effective when we acknowledge every good thing we have in Christ. Without knowledge of what the Word says we are and have, our faith isn’t absent, it’s inactive because of unbelief due to ignorance. The second type of unbelief is through incorrect teaching of God’s Word. If we are taught that it isn’t always God’s will for us to healed, or that we don’t always have enough power to cast out demons, or that we have not done enough to qualify for God’s goodness, or anything else that is contrary to the truth of His Word - we have unbelief. Only an understanding of the truth will remedy that! John 8:32 says, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” The third type of unbelief is when we are more focused on what we see in the natural than what we know to be true in the spirit. It’s where we are dominated by what we see, above what the Word says. According to Jesus, this unbelief can be remedied by prayer and fasting. When we pray and fast, we deliberately put our flesh in submission to our spirt-man. As we intently shift our attention on the Lord and His Word, we re-align our thoughts with the truth of God’s Word. We literally train our senses to focus on and magnify what is of the spirit and not the natural world. That’s what Jesus prescribed for His disciples and what we can apply to our lives too. Don’t allow unbelief to hinder the flow of your faith to see God’s power flow in and through you today!
