1 Peter 2:25 (ESV), “For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”
The moment we became born-again, the Bible says we received the Spirit of adoption into the family of God! Romans 8:15-17 says we have become children of God and heirs of His kingdom! Since His Own Spirit lives within us, we are now called to walk in the light that we were saved into! Ephesians 5:8 says, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” That word light refers to moral excellence and knowledge of truth! It is the opposite of ignorance. We are no longer having to live a life without any direction or purpose, since we have the “Light of the World” living within us! Jesus is our Great Shepherd. Psalm 100:3 says, “Know that the Lord, He is God! It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.” Knowing we belong to the Lord, makes the world of difference to how we conduct our everyday lives. We live in a self-seeking society that is bent on fighting for their own rights, regardless of how those ‘rights’ measure up to the will of God. In 2 Timothy 3, we are told that in the last days, people will become lovers of themselves, rather than lovers of God. They will even appear to have a form of godliness, but because they do not have hearts after the truth, what they believe and say will carry no evidence of God’s power. We are told to stay away from such people. If we truly are born-again, we will live exclusively for the Lord. Paul said our selfish wills don’t even exist anymore. They were nailed to the cross with Jesus. Now, Christ lives in our bodies, by His Spirit, and we live this life by His faith, doing His will! This isn’t a burdensome way of living either! It’s the most fulfilling, satisfying, and joyful existence possible! It will be faced with resistance on every side, but it is true and right and holds eternal significance. Today, remember who you are, and who you exclusively belong to. Follow your Good Shepherd, He will always lead you along the path of righteousness, where He nourishes you with good food from His Word, that enriches your life. As you surrender your will to His, every faith filled step of obedience will lead you into triumph.
