The Great Intercessor

Romans 8:26 (NIV), “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”

Praise God for the Person of the Holy Spirit. The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is the One Who lives on the inside of us (Romans 8:11). He is all knowing and all wise! Colossians 2:3 says all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge dwell in Christ, and since He is in us, by His Holy Spirit - all those treasures dwell in us too! Within the re-created spirit of every born-again believer is an inexhaustible wealth of rich treasury, just waiting to be released to flow into every area of our lives. When we begin to acknowledge this truth, we will no longer pray and act as though we are trying to get that wisdom and knowledge. Instead, we will pray knowing it’s something we already possess! Now we can co-operate with the Holy Spirit to have that Divine wisdom and knowledge flow from our spirit-man, up to our mind, through Holy Spirit inspired thoughts. As we pray in the Holy Spirit, we are praying the perfect will of God over our lives, over our circumstances, and over every area that concerns us. This is how the Holy Spirit prays on our behalf. 1 Corinthians 14:14-15 in the Passion translation explains it this way, “For if I am praying in a tongue, my spirit is engaged in prayer, but I have no clear understanding of what is being said. So, here’s what I’ve concluded. I will pray in the Spirit, but I will also pray with my mind engaged...” As we pray in the spirit, and keep our minds paying attention, expectant for the spontaneous thoughts the Holy Spirit to be released into our minds, we will recognize those thoughts the moment they come. Sometimes they will remind us of a scripture we once read, that has the answer we need. The thought could also be a word of knowledge, or an idea, whatever it is, we will know it’s of the Spirit because it will come into our minds with a sense of peace, an internal knowing that it is directly from the heart of God for us. Then, as we speak out what He reveals to us, the Word will go to work and bring the change needed. So, the next time you don’t know what to pray, let the Holy Spirit pray God’s perfect will in and through you, so you can pray accurately, and see God’s will prevail.
