Take No Thought

Matthew 6:31 (KJV), “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?”

People of faith have been criticized for ‘ignoring’ reality and giving people false hope. The truth is, we have chosen to make the Word of God our standard of reality, and its promises are our hope. Through the finished work of the cross, Jesus made a way for us to live in the manifest reality of every one of His promises. Faith is not ignoring the facts of life, or the natural circumstances around us. It is however taking what God says about those circumstances, coming into agreement with Him, and declaring those promise, expecting to see change. How can we be so sure this will work?  We can have full confidence that it will work because God’s Word says it will. Isaiah 55:11 tells us that when God’s Word is declared, it will never fail to produce what it says. It will always accomplish what it was set out to do. Faith is simply believing that God’s character is trustworthy enough to back His Word and see it go to work on our behalf. When the Word tells us to take no thought, it literally means to actively refuse to be in agreement with any thought that is contrary to God’s thoughts. In 2 Corinthians 10:5, we are told to cast down any thought that challenges what the Word says and bring it into the obedience of Christ. That means we are to not allow our minds to dwell on those wrong thoughts, but to immediately replace them with what God’s Word says instead. This is vitally important for every believer because our thoughts have the power to control us (Proverbs 23:7). Whatever we give our minds to, will have the final say in the direction our lives take. So be extremely intentional in what you allow your mind to dwell on. Don’t allow what you see in the natural to lead your thought life - rather become so familiar with God’s thoughts, from His Word - so that you can answer every problem with what He has to say about it. Then keep your mind focused on that truth.  As you continue to think and speak in line with God’s Word - the Word will do the work and bring about the change.
