Romans 6:16 (AMPC), “Do you not know that if you continually surrender yourselves to anyone to do his will, you are the slaves of him whom you obey, whether that be to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness (right doing and right standing with God)?”
Did you know that every born-again believer has received a brand new, perfect spirit that is one with God’s Spirit? (2 Corinthians 5:17,1 Corinthians 6:17). Our spirit is perfect, righteous, holy, and pure - just like Jesus (Ephesians 4:24; John 4:17). Praise God! And there’s more! Hebrews 10:14 says Jesus made the only sacrifice necessary to perfect and sanctify our spirits FOREVER! Hallelujah! According to 1 John 3:9, the re-born spirit-man cannot sin because it is born of God and Ephesians 1:13 says it can’t be contaminated with anything impure because it is sealed by the Holy Spirit! So, what happens when we do sin? Well, according to the Word, sin gives the devil a legal right to work his death into our lives because we yielded ourselves to him. This doesn’t mean we have lost our salvation; it does mean we have given the devil permission to assault and influence our souls and bodies. If we don’t deal with it immediately, by confessing our sin and repenting, our souls will not be cleansed of that sin and its deadly effects (1 John 1:9). Eventually, that un-confessed sin will enslave our souls, causing them to be hardened and calloused towards God. The danger for someone who has a soul that is hardened against God is that he becomes so deceived that unless he comes to repentance, he will end up rejecting his salvation. Hebrews 6:4-6 and Romans 1:28,32 explains the spiritual tragedy for someone who renounces his faith as a result of giving himself to sin, even though he at one time enjoyed a fruitful, mature relationship with the Lord. God removes the conviction of His Holy Spirit from them, and they are given over to a reprobate mind - one that is without hope of salvation. Which is why it’s essential for the believer to keep his mind renewed to the glorious salvation he has in Christ Jesus! Decide to steer clear from anything that would entice you away from enjoying every benefit of being in Christ by fixing your mind on Him, giving no room to the devil!
