Servants of Righteousness

Romans 6:18 (AMPC), "And having been set free from sin, you have become the servants of righteousness (of conformity to the divine will in thought, purpose, and action)."

We all have some understanding of what it is to be a slave to something or someone - whether it is an addiction, a temptation or simply being indebted to someone. Being a slave to something produces a real sense of hopelessness - where it feels as though you are stuck, and helpless to improve your situation. As long as that thing has a hold on you, you will never be free. Paul emphasises the truth that in Christ Jesus, we are free from the bondage of sin! Now, we have become servants of righteousness instead! What a comparison! You see, choosing Christ involves a complete surrender to His will in the way we think, the motives of our hearts, and all we do. That's because we know that without the Lord being in complete control of our lives - we are bound for hopelessness, lack and failure. Being a servant to righteousness is far more appealing isn't it! In fact we have a strong desire to be owned by Jesus because that is true, intense freedom! Paul was overjoyed to pronounce he was a bond servant of Christ, because he knew it would yield immense fruit, favour and blessing! So rejoice in being free from sin as you are bound to victory in Jesus!
