James 4:7 (AMPC): "So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you."
There are many scriptures that clearly speak of the devil being a defeated foe, but this one really throws the punch! This particular translation says we should "stand firm" against the devil, which lines up beautifully with the message Peter conveys in 1 Peter 5:8-9. Here he urges believers to stand firm by being strong in our faith. He explains how we can do this by being alert and aware of the sinister nature of the devil, since he prowls around like a roaring lion. In nature, lions would typically attack animals that are either weak or isolated from their herd. When we keep the word of God alive in our hearts, and are actively involved in the work of the Lord, with like-minded believers - our faith is strong and we are very aware of our authority over the power of the devil. Knowing who we are in Christ Jesus, and the authority we have in Him gives us a confidence to recognise and resist any fiery dart he throws our way. Today, understand that in Christ Jesus, you are extremely powerful against the kingdom of darkness, and when you operate in your authority, the devil will flee from you in stark terror. So stand firm by being strong in your faith and you will beat the devil at every turn.
