The Heart of the Matter

1 Corinthians 10:31(NIV): "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

Since the existence of the early church, people have argued over theology and doctrine. Opinions of what is permitted and what is not, what is under the law of Moses and what is no longer required now in Christ Jesus. Paul addressed this very issue. The Christians in Corinth were zealous and fervent in their new found faith. They were saved out of a world that was filled with superstition and strange rules and rituals. As a result, they tended to over-spiritualise things, becoming legalistic and losing the heart of the matter. They even began to question what they could or could not eat, now that they were Christians. Paul's answer to them was simple: he told them to always seek to honour God. When we push into a living relationship with the Lord and His Word, His Holy Spirit reveals what truly pleases and honours Him. Living full of the Word and being controlled by the Holy Spirit is a sure way to navigate through the muddied rules and regulations, and get to the heart of what truly counts in God's kingdom. Let's spend less time arguing about trivial matters and pursue those things that truly honour God.
