Don't Harden Your Heart

Deuteronomy 10:16 (AMPC): "So circumcise the foreskin of your [minds and] hearts; be no longer stubborn and hardened."

The children of Israel had forty years of seeing the goodness and faithfulness of God. They experienced a continuous demonstration of Him proving His trustworthiness, care, protection, and provision. However, when trouble presented itself they complained and doubted His faithfulness to them. We are told their hearts were hardened and callous towards God, preventing them from recognising and enjoying His attentive care. No matter how many times He proved Himself, they remained stubborn and unbelieving. But when we really think about it, are we much different from them? How many times has God proven His faithfulness to us? How often have we called on His Name and seen Him rescue, protect, and provide? And yet, when trouble comes, we immediately resort to grumbling or worrying, even though we know He is trustworthy and has promised to never leave, or fail us? Let's be very careful to not harden our hearts by focusing on the trouble around us, instead of gratefully trusting in God's goodness towards us.
