The Shield of Faith

Ephesians 6:16 (NKJV): "above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one."

Have you ever felt tempted to just go ahead and make your own plans in life, hoping the Lord will bless your efforts? Making decisions based on your own understanding or reasoning is a big mistake. In fact, it's like lowering your shield of faith to your side and relying on your analytical thinking to take its place. What this does, is expose you to the enemy's deceit that can easily move you right off track. Taking the time to prayerfully go before the Lord, asking Him for direction and practical wisdom from His written Word, secures that shield of faith in a position where you are well protected from deception and indecision. This way you have God's Word leading your path, and you're able to keep your focus fixed on His plan. The phrase above all means that shield of faith should be out in front, covering every decision we make. Remember, faith comes from the Word of God, so choosing to hold onto its promises and wisdom is what will keep you safe, secure, and moving forward in His Perfect will, one decision at a time.
