Jesus Our High Priest

Hebrews 4:15 (AMPC): "For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathise and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning."

The Bible says that when Jesus came to earth and took on the likeness of man, He not only resembled us in appearance, He took on our human nature too. In other words, He came in the form of a man and was just like man. He was tempted in every way man is tempted. Since He experienced what we experience in every regard, He completely understands us and sympathises with us. In fact, the Word says He is our compassionate High Priest Who constantly intercedes on our behalf. What does this mean? Verse 16 of Hebrews 4 explains it clearly: "Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it]." When Jesus gave up His own deity to become just like us, He placed Himself in a position where He could completely understand us. That's why He urges us to fearlessly and boldly draw near to Him, and confidently expect Him to grant us mercy when we fail, and supernatural grace to help us get up again and overcome. What a wonderful, merciful Saviour - His generosity of grace is simply matchless and He wants us to take full advantage of it.
