A Wall of Fire

Zechariah 2:5 (NIV): "And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,' declares the Lord, 'and I will be its glory within'."

Zechariah was a young man when he began his ministry. His grandfather was one of the exiles who had returned to Jerusalem after God's people had been taken from their city - due to their disobedience. Zechariah received night visions from the Lord, to encourage the builders who were rebuilding Jerusalem. They were facing dangerous challenges and there were rumors of enemies that were threatening to destroy their city again and take them back into captivity. Zechariah delivered the word of the Lord to these builders, assuring them that regardless of their enemies plans concerning them - as long as their eyes and hearts were fixed on the Lord and obeying His voice - He would be a wall of fire around them. God promised to be their protection and to have His glory reside with them. Because of the new covenant we have in Jesus Christ - the glory and fire of the Lord permanently resides within us. If we choose to keep our eyes and hearts fixed on Him and obey His voice - we will see that fire and glory activated and operate as a strong and powerful force on our behalf. As much as God's glory in and upon us is a wonderful source of His peace, joy and strength; it is a formidable reminder to the enemy of our victory and authority over him. As you follow the Lord today, building His kingdom in all you do - remember His wall of fire and glory that is in you, upon you and goes before you.
