A Lifetime of Victory

1 John 2:14, (AMPC), "I have written to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one."

In the kingdom of God there is only progression. We move from faith to faith and from victory to victory, in Christ Jesus. In 1 John 2:14, John emphasises that our ability to remain victorious and overcome in this life has to do with truly knowing God in a lasting, thriving relationship. He addresses the fathers, implying that this relationship with God has been tested and proven through a life time of being strong in Him. Our faith in God to continually overcome in life is not based on a quick trial run, just to see if it works. It's a decision we take to fully commit our lives to following after Him and His ways. It's a whole hearted commitment that affects every area of our lives, forever. We are in this for eternity, not just the moment. John goes on to address the young men, who are walking in the footsteps of those who are established in faith. He implies that if they keep the course, they too will become like the fathers, who are firmly rooted and immovable in their faith. John encourages the young men to embrace their supernatural inner strength, that has come from having God's Word abide in them. He points out that this is how we form a lifestyle of continuously overcoming the enemy and all obstacles in life. God has called us to live a lifetime of victory in Him. Don't be tempted to quit or loose heart when the road get tough. Remember what you are made of. You have the Spirit of the resurrected Christ inside of you - He is victorious and so are you. Take Paul's words to heart when he said, "But our way is not that of those who draw back to eternal misery and are utterly destroyed, but we are of those who believe [who cleave to and trust in and rely on God through Jesus Christ, the Messiah] and by faith preserve the soul." Hebrews 10:39. This is your destiny - a lifetime of victory!
