Jesus declared that knowing the Truth, will set us free. In the verse preceding this statement, He reveals exactly what truth He is talking about. He says, "...If you abide in My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them],...". There it is, The Word of God is the Truth and it has the power to not only set us free, but keep us free from anything that would keep us from living a full, prosperous and satisfying life. In Psalm 119:5-6, David said, "Oh, that my ways were directed and established to observe Your statutes [hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying them]! Then shall I not be put to shame [by failing to inherit Your promises] when I have respect to all Your commandments."(AMPC). Hearing, receiving, loving and obeying God's Truth is what causes us to live in the reality of every one of His promises. What else does the Truth set us free from? Any sin that has latched itself to you in the form of a habit that you have been struggling to kick, will loose its grip on your life when you saturate your mind and heart with God's Truth! In Psalms 119:11 it says, "Your word have I laid up in my heart, that I might not sin against You." How does this work? Well, 1 John 5:4 says, "For whatever is born of God is victorious over the world; and this is the victory that conquers the world, even our faith." If we are born of God, we are victorious over the world, which includes all sin. So to begin with, you have to understand that through the finished work of the cross, sin is not in control of you, nor does it have any power over you. And the way you enforce its defeat over your life is by faith! Faith comes by the word of God you hear and receive into your heart. So, the more Truth you take in, the less hold sin of any kind will have over you, because you will begin to see yourself as God sees you - righteous, delivered, whole and powerfully free in Him! It's time to increase the amount of Truth you hear, receive, love and obey, so you can be and remain forever free!
