Spirit and Life

What do people do when they feel they've hit rock bottom, and they stare hopelessness in the face? Most resort to dulling the pain of regret, or the fear of failure by taking substances or doing things that make their flesh feel better, hoping to find some relief in their souls. But the Bible tells us the flesh gives no real benefit or profit to us at all. No matter how much time you invest in trying to satisfy the flesh, it will never result in the peace and joy you are so desperately seeking. In today's scripture, Jesus said the words He has been speaking are spirit and life. And we know that He only speaks what His Father says. In John 12:50, Jesus said, "And I know that His commandment is (means) eternal life. So whatever I speak, I am saying [exactly] what My Father has told Me to say and in accordance with His instructions." So, when Jesus says His words are life and peace, He is referring to the Word of God. Every scripture is God breathed, and inspired by God Himself. It carries His Spirit and life within it. So when we choose to take the time to plant it deeply into our hearts, and do what it tells us to do, life and peace will fill every area of our souls, and our physical bodies. The Word of God that is within us, will constantly keep God's power at work in us, and it will perfect all things concerning us. The more we invest in it, the more life and peace we receive. Mark 4:24 says, "And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you - and more [besides] will be given to you who hear." No matter what you are facing today, it is no match for the power of God, that is able to turn it around for your good. Only, you must choose to be strong in the Lord, by keeping His Words of life and peace alive in your heart.
