Our God is a Consuming Fire

God's fire affects people's hearts in powerful ways. It burns within us a new, unquenchable passion to follow wholeheartedly after Him, and tell the world of His goodness and power to see them saved, redeemed and free! To the heart that is committed to the Lord, His Fire has the power to eliminate every bit of dross in our lives. The definition of dross is worthless rubbish. All those things that would make us unproductive for His kingdom, or hold us back from enjoying victory in this life, is burned up by the fire of God as we yield ourselves to it. In The verse preceding Hebrews 12:29, it says, "Let us therefore, receiving a kingdom that is firm and stable and cannot be shaken, offer to God pleasing service and acceptable worship, with modesty and pious care and godly fear and awe;" Just as we chose to respond to the saving grace of Jesus, we must choose to embrace His kingdom life. It is firm and stable and unwavering against any opposition; and to remain in the heart of its powerful strength, protection and power, it requires our wholehearted devotion to God and His ways. Deuteronomy 4:24 says that God is a consuming fire because He is a jealous God. Now we know there is no darkness or sin in Him, so don't confuse His jealously with a work of the flesh. His jealousy isn't selfish. His jealousy is directed at our good. He knows that when we share our hearts and devotion with the things of the world, we become contaminated and influenced by the spirit that is in the world. That's what slowly but surely steals our peace and joy, and weakens our faith to overcome all the enemy brings against us. Our split focus will be our undoing in this life. So, every day, be sensitive to the Spirit of God. As you spend time with Him, in His Word of truth, welcome and surrender to His consuming fireto burn out every preconceived idea or notion that is contrary to His perfect will for you. As you do, you will experience a fresh passion and zeal rise up in your heart to blaze a trail of His glory wherever you go.
