If you are needing good counsel concerning a matter that is weighing heavily on your heart and mind; or if you are seeking specific guidance and direction, the Lord is ready and most willing to give it to you. James 1:5-6 says all you need to do is ask and expect to receive it from Him. Let me tell you, if you just set aside the time and ignore all those pressing distractions that are demanding your attention, and press in to the presence of the Lord, in a moment, He can speak excellent wisdom and wonderful counsel into your heart. What's more, He will give you ideas and instruction on how to apply that wisdom to make it work effectively for you. Psalm 16:11 says the Lord will show you the path of life, and you can be sure that it will end up being the more excellent and pleasurable way, because He is in it. But here's the thing, only making time for God's wonderful counsel after you have exhausted all other resources, including your own understanding; is really not wise at all. His way is always perfect, and when we choose to make a habit of seeking Him and diligently spend time in His Word, allowing it to continually guide us and cleanse us of wrong mindsets; we will constantly walk in the more excellent way. Psalm 11:8 says, "I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.". Seeking the Lord's wisdom in His Word, on a continuous basis, will instil a confidence in you that no matter what comes, you will stand your ground in what He has said and you will not be moved. Then you will watch and see all things come into line with what He has promised. And here's the real deal breaker, if you continue to spend quality time with the Lord, and keep His Word alive in your heart, applying its wisdom to your life, you can ask anything of Him, and it will be done for you. Those are the words of Jesus in John 15:7. So stop using God as your last minute plan of action, get committed to Him and His Word - it really is the most excellent way.
