The Higher Life

When Jesus came to earth, He demonstrated the kingdom of God way of living. It's far greater than the world's way because it's held to a completely different standard. The devil is the god of the world's kingdom, and it resembles his nature. It may look enticing, but at its heart is wickedness. It operates on deceit and selfishness that always leads to disappointment and misery. Matthew 7:13 tells us it's the easier, more popular way of life, but it always leads to destruction. Galatians 6:8 explains how the result of living after the flesh is decay and ruin, and in Romans 3:12, it says this kind of living is unprofitable and worthless. Now, the life Jesus came to show us is far superior because it resembles God's nature in every way. At all times, it's motivated by love and never fails; and the results are always prosperous and successful. The person who chooses to live this way is marked with inner peace and powerful, soul strengthening joy. After making this way of life possible for us, Jesus gave us His Holy Spirit to be our personal guide and teacher, to lead us in it. That's what Romans 8:14 says, and in verse 37 it tells us we are more than conquerors as a result of following and being led by the Holy Spirit. Living this way is only possible through our intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit. That's because, as 1Corinthians 2:14 says, it is a way of life that is discerned by our spirits as the Holy Spirit reveals the truth and wisdom of God's ways to us; and His ways are found in His Word. If you are wanting to live the higher life Jesus has for you, understand that outside of your vital relationship with the Holy Spirit, it's simply not possible. As we make time to meditate on the Word, we give the Holy Spirit the opportunity to reveal its practical wisdom to us so we can live the higher life He has called us to.
