Psalm 85:8 (TPT): “Now I’ll listen carefully for Your voice and wait to hear whatever You say. Let me hear Your promise of peace—the message every one of Your godly lovers longs to hear. Don’t let us in our ignorance turn back from following You.”
“I will wait to hear whatever You say!” More than anything in this world, the most important thing is our audience of One – the Lord. The greatest pleasure and privilege we have received is reconciliation with God; and with it the responsibility of reconciling man to God. But as we busy ourselves with His work, it’s almost guaranteed that we’ll encounter distractions along the way…things requiring our attention. In this end of year season, many of these distractions become interruptions - pulling us away from our time with the Lord - and there are those that seem legitimate and even justifiable. “Noble distractions” are still distractions! Remember, where things don’t align with the centre of God’s will for our lives, it’s okay to say no – more than okay, it is wise. Choose to prioritise your life today according to the GREATER One – the One who lives in you, and is greater than he who is in the world. Being selfish with our personal time with God is evidence of our reliance on Him, and our delight in Him. What’s more, it sets us apart from a life of duty to a life of purpose and joy. Prioritise time alone with the Lord to listen and delight in Him. It’s not a burden – it is freedom and privilege
