Fear is the Enemy

"Deuteronomy 31:8 (AMPC): "It is the Lord Who goes before you; He will [march] with you; He will not fail you or let you go or forsake you; [let there be no cowardice or flinching, but] fear not, neither become broken [in spirit - depressed, dismayed, and unnerved with alarm]."

After all his years of walking with God, Moses offers these powerful words to launch Joshua into his role to lead God's people into the promised land: "It is the Lord Who goes before you, and with you; He will not leave you..." Moses knew full well that uncertainty and fear would be something Joshua and the people would face as they took a land that was inhabited by intimidating enemies. That was a given - but fear, cowardice, and a broken spirit would only work against them, and keep them in defeat. The only way they would be able to refuse fear and experience victory was to take a firm hold on faith. They had to decide, even before they took the first step towards their promise, to trust in the Lord. As long as they were confident in the truth that He was going before them, and would be with them, a spirit of victory would drive out all fear, and every battle would be won. Every promise God has given us in His Word is guaranteed for us to possess - provided we don't lose heart and give into doubt and fear in our journey towards seeing it become our reality. Just like the Israelites of old - fear is the only enemy we have to deal with. The giants, impenetrable walls, and obstacles standing between us and the promise, are powerless while our hearts are full of faith and confidence in God. Know He has gone before you and is with you every step of the way. Refuse fear, hold fast to faith and every promise will be yours.
