Philemon 1:6 (KJV): “That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.”
Our faith becomes effective when we acknowledge and realize the deposit Christ Jesus has made in our lives. This truth completely transforms our thinking regarding who we are, and what we are able to do in this life. Paul prayed that the communication of Philemon’s faith would become effectual. He needed to have a very real sense of where his faith came from, and where it would take him. How we receive faith, understand its purpose in our lives, and communicate it to those around us is what makes it extremely effective. So, where does faith come from? It comes by the Word of God we hear and allow to become alive in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. How does it work? Faith works by love! Our faith receives power to work when we are fully convinced of God’s love towards us. That’s because when we know how much He loves us – we can trust Him! Romans 5:5 says this love creates a hope in us that never disappoints! That’s why faith must begin with an inward transformation of our hearts to fully trust in God – before it’s released from us to produce effective results. As long as our minds are fixed on the truth of Who God is and what He has promised us, and our hearts are engaged in trusting in His goodness and love towards us – our faith will effectively lead us into a joyful relationship of trusting in and receiving from the Lord!
