The Proof is in the Fruit!

Matthew 12:35 (NLT): "A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart."

How do we recognise the quality of a person's heart? Jesus said it's by their fruit! In other words, whatever we produce by the way we speak, and the things we do, will be a good indicator of what our hearts are filled with. Coarse language and a critical tongue always produce bad attitudes, strife and all kinds of evil. This way of speaking is completely inappropriate for any believer. The Bible says even though we are in this world, we are not of it. We have been given a different Spirit. We don't speak or act like the world does, we are called to a higher way. Not because we are superior, but because we have been saved and redeemed from a life that was enslaved to sin and under its control. The more time we spend enjoying the Presence of the Lord, feasting on His Word, and yielding to His Spirit within us - the more His character dominates our own. Without even realising it, we will leave a trail of righteousness, peace and joy wherever we go. That's what the working Presence of God and His Word produces in us! Fill your heart with God's Word and its excellence of character will be reflected through your life.
