Desire Precedes Discipline

Matthew 26:40-43 (NKJV): "Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "What? Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy."

Many Christians try motivating themselves to be disciplined to follow after the things of God, only to fail miserably. The truth is: if our motivation to spend time with the Lord in His Word is not from a desire to know and experience Him, it becomes a chore instead of a passion. That's because we follow after what we are attracted to. When we understand spending quality time with the Lord produces a life filled with power, peace, and irrepressible joy, we'll find it well worth pursuing! Experiencing God's goodness, mercy, deliverance, faithfulness, and generosity is something we are all drawn to - and people make time for a God they hunger to know. Ask the Holy Spirit to awaken the desire to know Him more today; you'll not be disappointed in the wonderful Person you find!
