Thirst for Him

Jeremiah 2:13 (NLT): “For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me—the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all!”

The most foolish of notions is to think we would be able to live on this earth without knowing God, and being a stranger to His covenant promises. When in dire need of water, which would you prefer: a cracked cistern or fountain of fresh, pure water? We can be so caught up in the things of this life that we actually believe the cracked cistern is the will of God for our lives. A life where we must struggle and try find our way on our own. We begin to think it isn’t God’s will to provide us with anything better than that cracked cistern we created and have come to depend upon. But the truth is we desperately need God, and there is no substitute for His all-encompassing Presence in our lives. Our deepest desire is for Him. To be filled with, and saturated, with the life and peace and joy that flows from intimately knowing Him. Fulfilment is only truly found in knowing Him. When we waver from this essential truth, we ultimately choose death by thirst. But Jesus calls us to Himself today. Open wide your heart and receive the fountain of life that will quench your thirst and satisfy your longing - forever.
