Be Sincere

Romans 12:9 (AMPC): "[Let your] love be sincere (a real thing); hate what is evil [loathe all ungodliness, turn in horror from wickedness], but hold fast to that which is good."

Living in a world that demands certain stereotypes, makes it easy to fall into the trap of pretence; especially when it comes to the way we relate to people around us. But when we have rooted and grounded ourselves in the love of God, and the truth of His Word, we adopt the very same principles and attitude towards people and life as He does. This means our convictions are solid and strong - we really do hate evil and hold tightly onto what is good. That good includes the way we treat other people - especially when they don't have the same opinions as we do. The Bible teaches us to walk in love and be sincere about it. We don't have to push or lord our opinions over them, acting superior or having a domineering attitude towards them. That isn't how love behaves. Our genuine kindness and gentleness is more effective at diffusing evil intent than a harsh, abrupt tone. And when we forgive those who wrong us, we must be sincere about it - let it go and deliberately choose to patiently overlook their inconsistencies. This is how our Heavenly Father treats us. Remember, He has promised to always take care of us and has our best intentions at heart - He is our defender, avenger and the One Who brings promotion in our lives - we don't have to enforce it. We need to focus on living a life that is pleasing to Him, and He perfects everything concerning us. You will never come out second best when you choose to walk in love towards others sincerely and intentionally – that is God's promise to you. So refuse to let that attitude of self preservation and pretence dominate you - do what is good and right with a sincere heart - and watch the Lord move mightily on your behalf.
