Paul tells us to work hard to show the results of our salvation. That doesn't mean we have to work to achieve our salvation, that was a free gift from God. What it does mean, is we must continuously allow our lives to be a testimony of the new life we now have in Christ. In the Amplified Classic version, it says we do this by living carefully, with reverence and awe and trembling. In other words, not trusting in our own wisdom or strength of character, but rather, having a complete reliance on the Holy Spirit and His strength and ability to work in and through us. Paul said we must have a tenderness of conscience, always being watchful to not give into the temptation to do things in the flesh, which will offend God and discredit the name of Christ. Rather, we live by faith, obeying what the Spirit leads us to do as we apply the principles of His Word. This way we become co-workers with God. We don't shrink back in fear when challenges come, we build our faith up in the Word of God and decide to obey the Holy Spirit in all matters. This is where we step into that supernatural partnership with the Spirit of God, and amazing wonders occur in our lives. Previous obstacles suddenly become opportunities, and what was naturally impossible, becomes possible by the supernatural intervention of God. As we approach the future by being conscious of our partnership with the living God, nothing will stop His purpose from being fulfilled and established in and through our lives.
