The little word "If" in this scripture has a very large meaning. Often, the word 'if' has a negative or pessimistic tone, because it either promotes doubt or precedes a condition that needs to be met. But the word 'if' used in context of this verse is filled with expectant hope. Since the Word has already established the loving nature of God, and the truth that He does care for us, deeply and intently, the word "if" here is used as a confirmation of His intensions towards us. In fact, it adds to our earnest expectation to see the extent of how much He really is for us. This verse says that God is so for us, that no matter what comes against us, He is willing and able to take it on and be on our side in the battle. Since our trust is securely placed in Him, He will take responsibility for our lives and act on our behalf, in the face of adversity. Our victory is secure, against any foe, while we are rooted and grounded in Him. Perhaps it's time to stop saying, "If only God would intervene," to "If God is for me, as He said He is, then He does have a plan for me. He does hear me when I call. He does make a way out for me, and He will lead me into victory, because He is my shelter and my peace." Perhaps its time to take God at His Word and believe what He says about Himself, and how much He is for you. God will never force His will upon you, yet He promises to be more than you expect Him to be if you dare to call upon His Name and trust Him to honor His Word. The choice is ours to make. Why not step out in faith and see if He is all He promises to be.
