Rejoice always

Have you ever wondered why the Bible instructs us to rejoice? Just like loving and showing kindness to others is something we have control over, choosing to be joyful is too. Even though the Word instructs it, we can choose to love or not to love. In the same way, we can choose to rejoice or not to rejoice. The question remains, why is it important for us to rejoice, seeing God commands us to do it? The answer lies in what we choose to rejoice in, more than whether we do or not. When our rejoicing is based on us believing, no matter what, that God is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, and His faithfulness and truth endure forever, something supernatural happens! We begin to understand and know, that no matter what we will face in this life, because of Who He is to us, we will never be victims of our circumstances. We rejoice knowing that God is trustworthy and will honour His Word concerning us, in every situation. God wants our thoughts to be first and foremost on Him at all times. That way, when trouble does come, we are already poised for victory, because our minds are fixed on Him, and Who He is! Of course, knowing He promises to perfect all things concerning us (Psalm 138:8) adds to our joy. But when we truly know Him, we find, He alone is more than enough reason for us to rejoice.
