Revelations 3:16
The church of Laodicea, in modern day Turkey, was one of the seven churches recorded in the book of Revelations. It had warm water flowing into the city from a spring and cold water, from snow-capped mountains. The warm pampered a sore body, while the cold water quenched a thirst. Both were useful. The problem was, the lukewarm water was not good for anything. Actively abiding in Christ causes us to be effective, useful vessels in His hands. However, refusing to abide in Him renders us fruitless and void of any true purpose.
